Literature can work in mysterious ways
By: Maricela Ramirez
(Class of '11)
School can be lame but there are some things that are actually worth coming to school for. It’s boring when you sit in class and listen to teachers lecture. A while ago we had a side conversation in class about ancient literature and early writing, including the Bible and Genesis. When you’re little, you’re told about the story of Adam and Eve. You are told that God created the world with animals and all that stuff, and then created Adam and Eve. God told them not to eat from the forbidden tree and if they did, they would face the consequences. Later on, they disobeyed and tra-la-la-la-la. Now, did you ever stop and think why God did this. Many ask, “If God didn’t want Adam and Eve to eat from the tree, then why did God put it there in the first place?!” Well, God did this to test their obedience skills. Another thing is, is God a liar? Didn’t God say that if Adam and Eve ate from the tree he would kill them? So why weren’t they killed? Why would God threaten them with the death penalty if they were still going to live? The only thing that was done was that they lived the rest of their life suffering. Makes you think huh? It sort of makes you think more maturely about the world around you, whether it be morally, religiously, etc. and makes you look more in depth to what you think you know. Without a good group discussion I never would have been able to ask these questions out loud. If you don’t participate in class you won’t get more insight to these things. So ask questions, listen, and participate.
Why bother to write?
By: Eliana Astudillo (Class of ’11)
What do you think of writing? Boring? Fun? There are different ways you can describe writing. I enjoy writing. Writing is a strong form of expressing feelings and thoughts. It not only displays deep meanings and morals in life but it portrays different emotions. There may be humor, sadness, adventure, mystery, and more expressed in writing. I like to write in a way where I can relate to the readers and expand their knowledge with what I know. I like to provide my insight on what I am writing, whether it is on a certain theme or novel. I believe that the structure of an essay is important, because if there is no structure there is no flow. Therefore, the meaning cannot be found and the essay is not understood. The thesis statement is also very important because it articulates what the essay is about. I like to use transition sentences, enhanced vocabulary, and clear sentences.
I did not always write as I do so now. It takes effort and hard work to improve your writing. I also expect to improve my writing further. I would like to improve more on my introduction paragraphs because they are important; they grasp the reader’s attention. I am still learning more and more each day about writing. Each person has their own form of writing and they can always achieve greater. You can always improve your writing and you can do this by paying attention in class, reading many books, practicing your writing, and being dedicated. Remember, you can do it!
