The moment that you walked through the doors of Foreman High School was the day that your variety of experiences began. Some have been bad, some good, some that don't make sense, some that change you, and some that hurt you. However, at the end they shape you and make you who you are. Your time in high school is to experience something new and learn. It's not just merely attending school, acting like a fool and giving up at the end. It's about taking in the knowledge and using it to your advantage. These are some of the things to keep in mind during senior year. Others include:
- getting your post-secondary (college/scholarship, etc.) stuff done ASAP
- going to school and not cutting (as much)
- keeping your grades up
- making sure you're on track to graduate
- being organized
- asking for help when you need it
These are main things to know when you are going from the change of a junior to senior. In Mr. Jones class there are other things to do that will help you do good in AP English Literature and Composition. They include:
- stay awake (sometimes Mr. Jones tends to ramble on)
- read as much as you can
- practice your writing
- expand your vocabulary
- keep all papers and work Mr. Jones gives you
- make connections with the pieces of literature
- pay attention...real close attention
- ask questions
- enhance your writing by using new writing techniques
- help yourself and your peers by comparing your work to theirs and seeing how you can improve or how they can improve their writing
Other than these tips, just take in as much as you can, have fun, be yourself, don't regret, and enjoy because when it's over it's done!
Why bother to write?
By: Eliana Astudillo (Class of ’11)
What do you think of writing? Boring? Fun? There are different ways you can describe writing. I enjoy writing. Writing is a strong form of expressing feelings and thoughts. It not only displays deep meanings and morals in life but it portrays different emotions. There may be humor, sadness, adventure, mystery, and more expressed in writing. I like to write in a way where I can relate to the readers and expand their knowledge with what I know. I like to provide my insight on what I am writing, whether it is on a certain theme or novel. I believe that the structure of an essay is important, because if there is no structure there is no flow. Therefore, the meaning cannot be found and the essay is not understood. The thesis statement is also very important because it articulates what the essay is about. I like to use transition sentences, enhanced vocabulary, and clear sentences.
I did not always write as I do so now. It takes effort and hard work to improve your writing. I also expect to improve my writing further. I would like to improve more on my introduction paragraphs because they are important; they grasp the reader’s attention. I am still learning more and more each day about writing. Each person has their own form of writing and they can always achieve greater. You can always improve your writing and you can do this by paying attention in class, reading many books, practicing your writing, and being dedicated. Remember, you can do it!
